A ceremony with nothing to show.
A foundation-stone ceremony matters for communications — elected members, partners, funders, local press — and is visually poor: bare ground, shovels, a site board. 3D renders circulate on a screen or a leaflet, but nobody can walk around them.
Izzy Event was looking for something to give the event a centre of gravity, and an object guests would stop at and photograph themselves beside.
The building, before the building.
We reproduced the future shopping centre from the architect's plans at reduced scale: volumes, roofs, solar panels, inner courtyard, patios and planting. Close to ten thousand pieces across a footprint of a metre and a half by eighty centimetres.
On the day, the model was installed under a marquee and hosted: a presentation stand where guests could come close, ask questions and grasp the layout far better than from a plan unfolded on a table.
The level of detail was matched to the use: precise enough for partners to recognise their project, robust enough to survive a day of event and a journey.
On display in the current store, waiting for the new one.
The model's career did not end on the evening of the ceremony. It is now displayed in the existing store, where it presents the project to customers every day, and it will move into the new building on opening day.
