A rallying point for a show that runs two days.
A two-day convention has a different problem from an afternoon activity: you have to give visitors a reason to come back tomorrow, and to come back several times in the same day.
The organiser wanted an activity that spoke to its audience without explaining the rules, and that used the show's own identity rather than generic artwork.
The show poster, in 16,000 pieces.
We took the official poster and turned it into a mosaic of sixteen thousand pieces, two metres tall by 1.6, cut into panels spread across several tables.
The stand stayed open all weekend, with no booking and no time slots. Visitors lay a few pieces on the way past, leave, come back — and many returned on the Sunday to see what Saturday had produced.
Progress is visible, and that is what turns an activity into an appointment. Nobody has to ask people to come back; they come back because they want to see the next bit.

Finished on the Sunday, and turned into a backdrop.
The mosaic was completed before closing by several hundred visitors. Once mounted on its board, it became the backdrop the public photographed themselves against for the rest of the show.
You run a show and it lacks a rallying point.
